Quito, Ecuador

I had seen an ABC News special about many Americans retiring in Ecuador. And I had taken a family to the hospital (in the FFD ambulance) who had gone there on vacation, and they were thrilled by the experience. So, it was lurking in the back of my mind. Not to be around other Americans in retirement, but to be someplace else / new / different.

In November I finally made
my decision.

Then on December 4,
I took off.

Day 1 was packed full of learning since I had no plan. I had done no research, and I didn’t know what there was to see or to do. So I started trying to find out.

Founders Day was so much fun I had to break it up between
morning and afternoon!

I spent
Pearl Harbor Day in town exploring.

Next day I went to (or near)
the equator.

Then
a day bumming around Quito.

And
a trip up to the top

And another day walking around Quito, the
more International-ish district, hanging.

And then, back north.
